RAY
D'ARCY, visiting physicist at
U. C., started climbing
with UCMC around 1961. Ray had a unique combination of determination,
energy, and dynamic and flexible style that propelled him to the top of
the hardest Devils Lakes climbs. Indeed, some of his top-roped
ascents were not considered doable until Ray did them. In the 1995
Guidebook to Devils Lake climbing (the latest available, apparently),
an entire buttress is named in Ray's honor: D'Arcy Buttress, which not
surprisingly contains D'Arcy's Wall. Ray's work-schedule precluded his
joining our long Teton trips, but he frequently climbed with us at
Devils Lake.
[I have not been able to locate an
email address or other contact for
Ray. Any information would be appreciated.]
