FRANK ADAMS John Frank
Adams obtained his
first degree in Mathematics at Trinity College, Cambridge, in 1952 and
visited the U.C. as a Research Associate in 1957-58 on a Commonwealth
Scholarship. He climbed with us several times at Devils Lake. I climbed
the CMC route on Moran (GTNP) with Frank, descending via Skillet
Glacier. Mike Fain climbed the Grand Teton with Frank.
Frank brought us a characteristically British approach to climbing:
less emphasis on technology, more on developed human abilities. His
favorite rockclimbing footgear, for example, was a pair of thin tennis
sneakers; and he had little inclination to protect leads with hardware,
preferring to keep the difficulty of the lead
well within his ability.
Frank died in 1989 at the age of 59, at Near Brampton,
Huntingdonshire,
England.
