Richard has sent us another 16 climbing photos, of him, Steve
Derenzo, and other climbing companions, mostly taken in the 1964-66
era, arguably the most ambitious and successful climbing years in the
history of the UCMC. It's a shame we do not have more images from
this era (Steve, are you reading this?), but what we have are
gems. Rich says all these photos were provided by Jim Swallow. Note the
"suggestions on use" below.

Many thanks to Michael for his unfailing support of the project, for
his valued corrections and criticism, and for the his contribution of
the many fine images in the two collections linked above. A majority of
these images have already been distributed to the appropriate Climber
and Climbs folders; the remainder will be, soon.
04/17/06 The 176 slides that Richard Goldstone
recently contributed have been scanned, compressed, thumbnailed and
posted on the UCMC website here: Richard
Goldstone UCMC Slide Collection . This is a remarkable collection
of state-of-the-art climbing images spanning half a century. The
locales include Yosemite, SD Needles, Devils Lake WI,
several areas in Europe,
the Grand Tetons, Wind River Range WY, the [Shawan]Gunks NY, Bugaboos
BC, Cannon Mtn. NH, Poko-Moonshine NY, Tuolumne Meadows CA, Royal
Gorge and RMNP CO. The slides have Richard's annotations regarding who,
what and where [in the file "Richard Goldstone Collection
Annotations.html" at the link above].
[Suggestion
on use: open two side-by-side browser windows, one for the
..Annotations.html, one for
the
Thumbnails.html. Make the latter window wide enough to show all four
thumbnails per row, and max/unmax it for wide ("landscape")
images]

Devils Lake update:
According to CLIMBING
CENTRAL
the 1995 edition (apparently the latest) of the Climbers Guide to DL
lists about sixteen hundred
climbs - 5.1 through 5.13b in difficulty. The Climbing Pioneers
had no idea they were the vanguard of a mass movement!
